This is a case of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) as a rare complication of varicella Zoster infection. A young male with no significant medical history presented with generalized tonic clonic seizures preceded by vesicular rash on the face diagnosed as Varicella zoster infection. The MRI showed bilaterial superficial hemorrhagic infarcts involving frontal and temporal lobes and MR Venogram was consistent with extensive CVST involving superioir sagittal, right transverse and superficial veins. After initial treatment with antiepileptic and anticoagulant, he showed marked improvement in symptomatology and made complete recovery subsequently with recanalization of sinuses seen on a follow up MRV done at fourth month. Our case emphasizes on having a high suspicion of Varicella Zoster infection in patient who presents with CVST with an underlying ongoing Rash or a prior history of recent body Rash

Modern day stock markets have almost entirely became automated. Even though it means increased profits for the investors by algorithms acting upon the slightest price change in order of microseconds, it also has given birth to many ethical dilemmas in the sense that slightest mistake can cause people to lose all of their livelihoods. This paper reviews one such event that happened on May 06, 2010 in which $1 trillion dollars disappeared from the Dow Jones Industrial Average. We are going to discuss its various aspects and the ethical dilemmas that have arisen due to it

OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy and adverse effects of deferiprone in patients with Thalassemia Major. METHODS: A prospective case series study was conducted at the Fatimid Foundation Blood Bank and Haematological Diseases center Lahore. A total of 87 patients entered into the study between September 2005 and November 2006. Deferiprone was given at subsidized rates at a dose of 75/mg/day for seven days. Physical examination and initial Laboratory investigations were done in all patients at the start of the study. Physical and laboratory data were filled on a questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 10.0. RESULTS: Eighty seven patients with mean age of 10.0 +/- 4.33 years (range 4-27 years) were included in the study. Mean follow up was 8 +/- 3.94 months (range 2-12 months). The mean Ferritin at the start of study was 4656 +/- 2052.5 ug/L (range 1200-14630 ug/L) and at the end of study period was 4139 +/- 1710.4 ug/L (range 749-8961) (p \u3c 0.001). Adverse events were joint pains in 10% patients, gastrointestinal symptoms in 11% and no adverse events in 79% patients. There was no evidence of agranulocytosis in any patient. CONCLUSION: Deferiprone was well tolerated, had few adverse effects and was effective in lowering the patient\u27s serum ferritin level

Purpose: The objective of the research study is to critically analyze the factors impeding time management towards students’ academic performance achievement. Design/methodology/approach: The study was carried out using a well-defined questionnaire collecting samples from 164 undergraduate students studying in the Faculty of Business, Sohar University, Sultanate of Oman from a population of 700 undergraduate students. For the study, the cluster-sampling method was adopted. SPSS was used to perform the statistical analysis. Findings: The empirical results reveal that none of the claimed factors related to time management influence the academic performance of the students. The students’ performance is purely based on their efforts and on their own self-management. Thus, it was concluded that it is the responsibility of the students to manage their time for which they should make their own plans. Practical Implications: The study confirms that the student's stay at the hostel facilitates them to improve their academic performances. It is also interpreted that the students are carried away by the domestic work during their stay at home, parents should take utmost not to deprived of their time for study. Parents should make necessary arrangements to reduce their travel time. Students should have their own self-control and self-commitment to manage and plan their own time for study purposes. Originality/value: The research work is of its first kind as it focuses on the impact of time management factors on the academic performances of the students

Effect of a pedometer-based walking challenge on increasing physical activity levels amongst hospital workers

Background: More than 50% of Qatari adults are physically inactive. The workplace is an excellent environment to implement cost-effective, efficient behavioural physical activity (PA) interventions to increase PA. This study evaluated whether a pedometer-based walking challenge would increase PA levels amongst hospital workers. Methods: A pedometer-based workplace walking intervention was implemented in April-August 2017. Amongst 800 recruited full-Time hospital workers, a cross-sectional sample of 212 workers completed the online questionnaires Quality of Life Questionnaire, International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and Workforce Sitting Questionnaire. A sub-sample of participants (n = 54) wore a pedometer for 3 months. They recorded their daily step count through an online web platform linked to the pedometer. Another cross-sectional sample (n = 194) in the same target population completed online questionnaires at post intervention. Results: The IPAQ assessed physical activity at post-intervention was higher compared to pre-intervention. In a sub-sample (n = 54) that provided pedometer data, workers' step count during intervention was significantly higher (9270) from pre-intervention (7890) (p = 0.048). Conclusions: Although self-reported PA was higher post-intervention, the subsample showed objectively assessed physical activity did not exceed the threshold recommended for optimal health. Therefore, encouraging participation and maintaining motivation amongst workers in a work-based PA programme is challenging. - 2019 The Author(s).The publication of this article was funded by the Qatar National Library. We would like to acknowledge, Mr. Manaf Kamil, Application Architect in assisting us to extract pedometer data for analysis.
